The series adopts for the first time in Pretty Cure franchise history an entirely hiragana writing for its title, including the word "Precure" itself, and the logo incorporates paw pad motifs.

According to executive producer Takashi Washio, the idea of a dog becoming a Pretty Cure originated from the classical rakugo tale "Motoinu" (元犬), with the team wondering "what if one's own pet could become a Pretty Cure with you?"

Originally, the project considered making the human owner the main character, but the team felt it was necessary to also show the dog's own feelings to truly represent the bonds between humans and animals, which led to making Komugi (the dog) the central heroine.

Atsumi Tanezaki, who voices Iroha (Cure Friendy), had played Pooka (Cure Pooka) a few months earlier in the Pretty Cure All Stars F film released in September 2023: this is a rare case where an actress goes from a guest movie role to a regular role in the subsequent television series.

Unlike previous Pretty Cure series, hand-to-hand combat was largely avoided: producer Maki Takahashi explained that, as the story dealt with rescuing animals, the team preferred "chase" scenes where the heroines calm and purify monsters by cradling them in their arms rather than attacking them head-on.

An official collaboration took place with the anime Crayon Shin-chan, broadcast on the same channel: Komugi and Iroha appeared as guests in episode 1233 of Crayon Shin-chan (May 18, 2024), and the next day Shinnosuke and Shiro appeared in episode 16 of Wonderful Precure.

Episode 18, aired on June 2, 2024, marked the 1000th cumulative broadcast of the Pretty Cure franchise (counting special reruns), with a special commemorative video and a closing illustration drawn by Akira Inagami, character designer of the series' early days; the true 1000th episode was later officially reached at episode 32 (September 8, 2024), which also featured as guests characters from Hirogaru Sky! Precure and Mahou Tsukai Precure! on the occasion of the film's release.

Even before the official start of the series, Komugi transformed appeared as a guest in part C of episode 50 of the previous series, Hirogaru Sky! Precure, aired on January 28, 2024.
