The miniseries is adapted from Harlan Coben's novel of the same name, with Coben serving as executive producer through his company Final Twist Productions. The adaptation was officially announced by Netflix in January 2024.

Ashley Walters was spotted filming in Manchester in late March 2024, but his casting was not officially confirmed until June 2024, alongside James Nesbitt and musician Matt Willis.

The cast includes musician Matt Willis and social media personality GK Barry in addition to established actors like Rosalind Eleazar and Richard Armitage.

Filming began in March 2024 at locations including Le Mans Crescent and Victoria Square in Bolton, as well as Manchester city centre and Parkgate on the Wirral Peninsula.

The series received mixed reviews, with a 48% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes (average 5.2/10 from 29 critics) and a Metacritic score of 57/100 based on 13 critics.

The Guardian noted that the first episodes felt repetitive but found that the series improved as it progressed.

According to Showlabs data, Missing You ranked third among Netflix's most watched titles in the United States during the week of 6–12 January 2025.
