Margarita is a spin-off series of the Argentine telenovela Floricienta (2004-2005), revisiting the universe created by Cris Morena several years later.

The development of the project began in June 2022, although the series' definitive title was not confirmed until April 2023.

Isabel Macedo was the first actress confirmed, reprising her iconic role as the villain Delfina Santillán that she had already played in Floricienta.

Graciela Stéfani also returned to her recognized role of Malala, a character she had already played in the original telenovela.

Mora Bianchi, the series' protagonist, was discovered by Cris Morena through an audition she had sent to apply for a scholarship to the Otro Mundo school, an institution founded by Morena herself.

Rafael Ferro joined the cast in July 2023 replacing Martín Seefeld, who had been initially announced for the role.

The filming of the first season took place entirely in Montevideo, Uruguay, between July and November 2023, in co-production with the Uruguayan production company Cimarrón Cine.

For the series' song music videos, special locations throughout Uruguay that did not regularly appear in the plot were used, such as the Casapueblo building in Punta del Este for the song 'Si quieres herirme' and Plaza Zabala for 'Espejito'.

Two weeks after its premiere on Max on September 2, 2024, Margarita became the most-watched Argentine series in Latin America on that platform.

At its broadcast television premiere on Telefe on September 23, 2024, the series surpassed its direct competition, 'Los 8 escalones del millón' from eltrece, becoming the most-watched program on Monday.
