The series was picked up by Peacock in February 2024 as an espionage techno-thriller, with Thomas Brandon serving as creator, writer and executive producer alongside co-showrunner Jennifer Yale.

In October 2024, the series was initially announced under the working title 'Copenhagen' before being renamed The Copenhagen Test.

Sara Amini joined the cast in a major recurring role as Ellie in November 2024, followed by Saul Rubinek's casting announcement the following month.

Principal photography began on October 21, 2024, in Toronto and wrapped on March 11, 2025.

Jet Wilkinson, who also serves as an executive producer, directed the first two episodes of the series.

The Copenhagen Test scored 1.1 billion streams in its first week (December 27, 2025 to January 1, 2026), becoming the third most-watched show in America at the time, surpassing Emily in Paris, The Pitt, and Fallout, and trailing only Stranger Things and Landman.

The show debuted at number 10 on the Nielsen Top Ten chart and drew the highest concentration of Black viewers (20%) and Asian viewers (12%) among all top 10 titles.

Despite strong viewership, Peacock canceled the series after just one season on April 15, 2026.

Critic Joel Keller of Decider named Saul Rubinek the 'sleeper star' of the show, while other reviewers praised the on-screen chemistry between leads Simu Liu and Melissa Barrera.
