Sirens is based on Molly Smith Metzler's 2011 play Elemeno Pea, which she adapted for the screen as showrunner, writer and executive producer.

The miniseries was executive produced under Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment banner, alongside Dani Gorin and Tom Ackerley.

Netflix gave the project a limited series order in February 2024, with the main cast including Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy and Milly Alcock announced by Variety in July 2024.

Kevin Bacon and Glenn Howerton joined the main cast as part of a group of eleven additional cast members announced in July 2024.

Nicole Kassell was brought on to direct the first two episodes and also serves as an executive producer on the series.

In its debut week, Sirens topped the Nielsen U.S. streaming originals ranking with about 1.4 billion minutes viewed.

The series holds a 77% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 64 critic reviews and a Metacritic score of 66 out of 100, indicating generally favorable reviews.
