Chad Powers was created by Glen Powell and Michael Waldron and received a series order from Hulu in February 2024.

Eli and Peyton Manning were involved in the show's production, helping secure football arenas and props for filming.

The Manning brothers also provided guidance to Glen Powell on how to authentically portray a star quarterback.

Filming for the first season began in late August 2024, and filming for the second season started on January 7, 2026.

Glen Powell stars in the titular role, playing Russ Holliday, who disguises himself as walk-on player Chad Powers using prosthetics and a wig after his football career is ruined.

Critic Alison Herman of Variety noted that the show shares tonal and structural similarities with Ted Lasso but lacks the depth and emotional development that made Ted Lasso resonate with audiences.
