The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is a reboot/revival that serves as a sequel to the original 2001–2017 Nickelodeon series and is considered the third series in the franchise, disregarding the events of The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder (2022).

Trademark registrations tied to Paramount Global and Nickelodeon appeared in June 2023, and in July 2023 Daran Norris confirmed that a new Fairly OddParents project was in development before the series was officially announced in February 2024 with 20 episodes ordered for its first season.

An unfinished version of the first episode, 'Fly,' was leaked online in January 2024, months before the series' official premiere.

Daran Norris and Susanne Blakeslee reprise their original roles as Cosmo and Wanda (and their anti-fairy counterparts), while Carlos Alazraqui and Grey DeLisle also return to voice Denzel Crocker, Vicky, and the Tooth Fairy from the original series.

Poof, previously voiced by Tara Strong as a baby, is now a grown-up fairy renamed Peri and voiced by Eric Bauza; showrunner Ashleigh Crystal Hairston explained the name was changed from 'Poof' because it is considered a slur in many countries.

The character 'Not Timmy Turner,' a middle-aged man seen working odd jobs around Dimmadelphia, is designed as a homage to the adult Timmy Turner seen in the original series' finale 'The Big Problem!,' though showrunner Lindsay Katai confirmed he is not actually Timmy Turner.

Dale Dimmadome, previously voiced by Dee Bradley Baker in the original series, is voiced by JP Karliak in the new series.

Republic Records Kids & Family released a soundtrack album on September 20, 2024, featuring 22 original songs composed by Caleb Chan, plus additional songs written by Ryan Lofty and Courtney Lofty and a theme song arranged by Chris Sernel and Grayson DeWolfe.

The show's CG animation was produced by Giant Animation in Dublin, while the series itself is produced by FredFilms, Billionfold Inc., and Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, California.
