A pilot for Tires was originally uploaded in 2019 on Shane Gillis' YouTube channel, but it was removed prior to the show's official premiere on Netflix.

Several years after the original pilot, Gillis personally invested in producing a six-episode first season, which was later picked up by Netflix for distribution.

Thomas Haden Church joined the cast in November 2024 for the show's second season, playing Phil Jacobs, the wealthy but immature father of Shane and uncle of Will.

The series features numerous comedians in guest and recurring roles, including Andrew Schulz, Jon Lovitz, Ron White, and Vince Vaughn.

The show was renewed for a second season on May 21, 2024, just days after its May 23, 2024 premiere, and was later renewed for a third season on July 1, 2025.

Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 55% average score based on critic reviews, while Metacritic assigned it 44 out of 100, indicating mixed or average reviews overall.

Critic John Anderson of The Wall Street Journal gave a positive review, praising the show's mix of offensive humor and suggesting it could be 'a map to the future' of comedy, while Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times criticized it as too juvenile and said he didn't laugh once.
