The series is based on the Crow Girl book trilogy by Erik Axl Sund, the pen name of Swedish author duo Jerker Eriksson and Håkan Sundquist, which was optioned by ITV Studios and Tomorrow Studios back in 2014.

An earlier adaptation attempt was written by E.V. Crowe in 2023 before Milly Thomas ultimately adapted the books for the Paramount+ series.

Katherine Kelly, Dougray Scott and Eve Myles were cast in the lead roles in March 2024, alongside Lee Boardman, Victoria Hamilton and Clara Rugaard.

Filming began in Bristol in March 2024, using locations such as the city's Castle Park and Wine Street, with additional filming taking place in Brean, Somerset.

Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, a huge fan of the original novel who helped bring it to Buccaneer Media for adaptation, joined the series in April 2024 as an executive producer and contributed to the soundtrack alongside composer Adam Price.

The first series received strong reviews, scoring 88% positive from 8 critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics like Vicky Jessop, Lucy Mangan and Ed Power all giving it four out of five and praising Eve Myles's performance.

Ed Power of The Independent specifically highlighted the soundtrack as 'understated and spooky', calling it the perfect accompaniment to the thriller.
