North of North is Netflix's first Canadian original series, and it premiered on CBC, APTN, and Netflix in 2025.

The show was renewed for a second season in April 2025, scheduled to premiere in fall 2026, with filming taking place in Iqaluit and Toronto.

Filming for the first season took place entirely in Iqaluit, Nunavut, from March 14 to June 2024, since there was no filming studio nearby.

The Iqaluit Curling Club was converted into a sound stage to serve as the interior sets for the show, and the creators' company Red Marrow Media is working to build a permanent studio for future seasons.

Costume designers Debra Hanson and Nooks Lindell worked with local Inuit artisans to source traditional clothing, shoes, and jewellery, ensuring the parkas and traditional garments were made in Nunavut by Inuit artists.

Several cast members are Inuit from the region depicted in the show, including lead actress Anna Lambe who is from Iqaluit, the same city where filming took place.

Co-creator Alethea Arnaquq-Baril said the production received an outpouring of support from Nunavummiut, with many community members involved both on screen and behind the scenes.

The character Nevee wears tunniit (facial tattoos), a traditional Inuit practice that was banned by Christian missionaries during 20th-century colonization and only began being practiced again in the early 2000s.

The show won multiple Directors Guild of Canada awards in 2025, including Best Sound Editing, Best Picture Editing, and Best Production Design for the episode 'Top of the World', and was included in The New York Times' list of the 30 Best TV Shows on Netflix in August 2025.
