Creator Gabe Rotter initially wrote the script for the series 6 to 7 years before it went into production.

The series is produced by 20th Television, with Howard Gordon serving as showrunner and Antonio Campos both executive producing and directing.

Jodie Foster and Conan O'Brien serve as executive producers on the series, alongside Antonio Campos, Daniel Pearle, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger.

Star Claire Danes also served as an executive producer on the series.

Matthew Rhys joined the cast in August 2024, followed by Brittany Snow, Natalie Morales, David Lyons and Tim Guinee in October 2024, and a wave of recurring and guest actors including Jonathan Banks, Deirdre O'Connell and Will Brill in November 2024.

Filming for the series took place in Red Bank, New Jersey, in September 2024.

It has been speculated that the series' plot is inspired by the real-life story of murderer Robert Durst.

The Beast in Me received nine nominations at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and acting nominations for Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys.
