Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

This 2025 series is a reboot of the original Bergerac, which aired on BBC One from 1981 to 1991 starring John Nettles.

Origins

A reboot was reportedly planned as early as 2013 by BBC's in-house Drama team, and another attempt was planned by Paramount Network in 2019 with Endemol Shine UK, but that version was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Origins

The new six-part series was finally announced in April 2024, produced by BlackLight TV and written by Toby Whithouse, Catherine Tregenna, Brian Fillas, and Polly Buckle.

Trivia

Part of the production funding came from the Jersey Government, as confirmed in July 2024 by Deputy Kirsten Morel, the minister for Sustainable Economic Development.

Casting

Damien Molony was cast as Jim Bergerac in July 2024; actors previously linked to the role earlier that year included Aidan Turner, James Norton, and David Tennant.

Casting

John Nettles, the original Bergerac actor, was offered a cameo role in June 2024 but declined, saying that at 80 years old he was 'too old'.

Filming

Filming took place in Jersey in the summer of 2024, including locations in St Helier, with additional filming in Plymouth, Devon in September 2024.

Reception

A second series was commissioned in April 2025 and released in April 2026, and the show was also picked up by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, airing from May 2025.
