Whispers of Fate is based on the serialized martial arts novel Enduring a Thousand Tribulations by Teng Ping, and was announced on November 11, 2023 at Mango TV's Commercial Presentation.

The series marks the third Otters Studio production starring Luo Yunxi in the leading role, following Till The End Of The Moon (2023) and the unaired Immortality, and reunites frequent collaborators Huatian Studio as world concept team, Huang Wei as costume director, and Wang Haiqi as action director.

Filming ran from December 2, 2023 to April 24, 2024, spanning 144 days, and involved over 2,000 crew members, 12 purpose-built soundstages, and 164 outdoor locations.

The production specifically designed 847 costumes and 1,222 accessories for the series.

The concept for the protagonist's mysterious homeland drew on the fox-dragon legends recorded in the Song dynasty compendium Taiping Guangji (volume 455), blended with the mystical imagery of Mount Li to build the show's xuanxia foundation.

The series set a new all-time platform record for Mango TV with 4.9 billion cumulative plays and became Migu Video's highest-rated content ever, with a heat index surpassing 15,000, and it also topped Thailand's Monomax and Vietnam's FTP Play Chinese-language charts.

Official merchandise sales for the show exceeded 13.6 million RMB by December 8, 2025, making it the top-selling annual merchandise champion among 2025 Chinese TV dramas, with Luo Yunxi's personal merchandise alone accounting for 86% of total sales.

The show's concert at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center sold out 14,000 tickets in 16 minutes across two rounds, prompting organizers to add extra seats and sessions, ultimately drawing nearly 20,000 attendees and making it the third Chinese TV drama concert to reach a ten-thousand-scale audience, after The Untamed and Word of Honor.

A Whispers of Fate theme park called 'Wufengxi · Longyin Tiancheng' opened in Wufengxi Ancient Town, Jintang County, Chengdu, Sichuan Province on December 17, 2025, billed as mainland China's first immersive film-and-tourism integrated project, using AR guided tours and VR large-space technology provided by China Mobile Migu.
