Austin

The title character Austin is played by Michael Theo, an autistic reality TV participant from Love on the Spectrum, marking his acting debut.

The series was created by Joe Tucker, Lloyd Woolf, Darren Ashton, and Ben Miller, who also serve as executive producers alongside Sally Phillips.

Filming for the eight-part first season began in November 2023 and took place in Canberra, Australia, as well as in England.

The series is produced by Northern Pictures and Lincoln Pictures, with support from the ACT Government, Screen Australia, ITV Studios, and Screen Canberra.

For its third season, announced in February 2026, production moved from Canberra to South Australia.

The series was broadcast on the BBC in the United Kingdom via an acquisition from ITV Studios, after initially being announced for a UK broadcast on ITV itself.

In Canada, the show debuted on CBC Gem on 18 October 2024 after CBC acquired it from ITV.

Critics praised Michael Theo's performance, with TV Tonight's David Knox noting the authenticity and comic timing he brought to the neurodivergent character, while The Guardian's Luke Buckmaster gave the series 4 out of 5 stars.
