Good Advice is an American situation comedy series that aired for two seasons on CBS from 1993 to 1994. It was co-created and executive produced by Danny Jacobson and Norma Safford Vela; and starred Shelley Long and Treat Williams. The Show was a hit, but it was cancelled because Long had suffered health problems that made her unable to film any new episodes for a long period of time.

Origins

Good Advice was originally intended to debut at the start of the 1992–1993 television season, but it was pushed to a mid-season replacement slot in spring 1993 because CBS's fall schedule was already overcrowded.

Casting

The series marked Shelley Long's first return to series television after leaving her iconic role as Diane Chambers on Cheers.

Good Advice was also Treat Williams' first sitcom role.

For the second season, Christopher McDonald's character Joey was recast, with Peter Onorati taking over the role, while Estelle Harris (Artie's mother) was cut as a regular and Teri Garr joined as Susan's sister Paige.

Filming

Production on the already-scheduled second season was halted after star Shelley Long became sick with the flu, forcing CBS to put the show on indefinite hiatus; the season premiere was delayed from October 1993 to summer 1994.

Trivia

The show's staff writers included Michael Patrick King and Max Mutchnick, who would later go on to create Will & Grace.
