Compared to the original 1989 anime series, this remake censors some Chinese communist symbolism.

Viz Media and Hot Topic hosted the world premiere of the first episode on August 23 during Anime NYC, ahead of its Japanese television broadcast.

Earlier that same month, the entire first season was leaked online alongside several other works handled by the Iyuno localization company; Netflix responded by issuing DMCA takedowns.

Netflix licensed the series for weekly worldwide streaming, releasing each episode immediately following its Japanese broadcast on Nippon Television and NNS affiliates.

The series was nominated for six categories at the 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2025, including Best Comedy, Best Romance, and Best Ending Sequence for "Anta Nante" by Riria, and its second season received two further nominations at the 10th edition in 2026.

The opening and ending themes changed between seasons, with season one featuring "Iinazukekkyun" by Ano and "Anta Nante" by Riria, and season two featuring "Wo Ai Ni" by Wednesday Campanella and "Panda Girl" by Nishina.
