Adults was created by Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw as an ensemble comedy about a group of friends in their twenties navigating adulthood in Queens, New York.

Although the series is set in Queens, New York, production actually took place in Toronto, Canada.

The series premiered its first two episodes together on FX on May 28, 2025, with new episodes airing in back-to-back pairs every Wednesday, and the full run was made available for streaming on Hulu the following day.

A special prequel episode revealing the origin story of the friend group and the character Paul Baker premiered at the 2026 Tribeca Festival on June 11 before its broadcast on FXX and Hulu on July 31.

The series was renewed for a second season in October 2025, which will move to sister channel FXX and premiere on August 27, 2026.

The second season features guest appearances by Susie Essman, Raven-Symoné, Gaten Matarazzo, Jake Shane, Isaac Powell, Ben Marshall, and Zosia Mamet.

To promote the series, in-person promotional events were held at laundromats in New York City and Los Angeles.

Critics frequently compared Adults to earlier hangout comedies like Friends, Girls, Broad City, and Search Party, describing it as a Gen-Z take on the messy twenty-something friend-group sitcom.
