Origins

The manga Petals of Reincarnation, written and illustrated by Mikihisa Konishi, began serialization in May 2014 in the Monthly Comic Blade magazine by Mag Garden. After the magazine's closure in July of the same year, the series was transferred to the Comic Blade website starting in September.

The anime adaptation was announced on August 1st, 2024, and the series was ultimately broadcast from April 3rd to June 26th, 2026 on Tokyo MX and BS NTV.

Casting

Many characters in the series bear the names of real historical figures from various fields (science, art, military history), such as Newton, Einstein, Darwin, Nightingale, Picasso, Tesla, and Nobel, who embody the members of the "Forest of the Great."

The opposing faction of the "Sinners" comprises characters inspired by famous historical criminals and dictators, such as Hitler, Vlad III, Albert Fish, Andrei Chikatilo, and Charles Whitman.

The character creator of the "Branches of Reincarnation," Alan Smithee, bears the name of the pseudonym traditionally used by American film directors wishing to remove their name from a film's credits.

Music

The opening theme song of the anime, titled "Glitch," is performed by eill, while the ending theme song, "ZERO," is performed by Sizuk. The series' music was composed by Kohta Yamamoto.

Reception

By August 2024, the manga had already surpassed 3 million copies in circulation.

Trivia

The series was co-produced by Sentai Filmworks and streamed on Hidive, with an English dub directed by Kyle Colby Jones launched on May 13th, 2026. Medialink also obtained the license for South and Southeast Asia through the YouTube channel Ani-One Asia.
