The series was directed by Kim Jung-kwon, known for films and shows such as Ditto (2000), Lie After Lie (2020), and Maestra: Strings of Truth (2023–2024), and was co-written by Park Chan-young and Jo Ah-young, who had previously collaborated on Best Chicken (2019).

Shin Se-kyung and Lomon were initially reported to be in discussions for the lead roles in July 2024, but Kim Hye-yoon was later announced as a new candidate for the female lead in August 2024, and by September 4 SBS officially confirmed Kim and Lomon as the leads.

Filming began in September 2024, and director Kim Jung-kwon revealed on Instagram on September 28 that the cast had held their first script reading.

The series was originally slated to air in the second half of 2025 in a Monday-Tuesday time slot, but revisions to SBS's 2025 programming lineup pushed the premiere to January 16, 2026, in a Friday-Saturday slot instead.

The show received mixed-to-positive international reviews praising the chemistry between leads Kim Hye-yoon and Lomon, but domestic ratings declined sharply over its run, dropping to a series low of 2.2% by the eighth episode.

Some domestic critics, including Kim Won-hee of Sports Khan, criticized the show's weak scriptwriting, juvenile dialogue, and unconvincing CGI, as well as Kim Hye-yoon's high-pitched, cartoonish acting tone in the role.

Kim Hye-yoon's role as the antihero gumiho Eun-ho was noted by critics as a departure from her previous 'heroic protagonist' roles in Extraordinary You (2019) and Lovely Runner (2024), showcasing a broader acting range.

The series became an immediate streaming hit on Netflix, entering the Global Top 10 chart for non-English television shows at number six during its debut week with 2.1 million views from only its first two episodes, and reached number one in several individual countries shortly after premiere.
