The series is adapted from a web novel (webnovel) titled "Judge Lee Han-young" by writer Lee Hae-nal, and it is the first television writing project submitted by writer Kim Kwang-min.

The series was originally scheduled to air on December 19, but was delayed a week to January 2, 2026, due to the impact of broadcasting the fifth playoff game of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) League on the previous series during the same time period.

In the second episode, the character Park Chul-woo watches a real baseball game on his phone that took place on May 2, 2025, in Gwangju between the Hanwha Eagles and the Kia Tigers, and as mentioned in the series, Hanwha actually won the game after a tie in the ninth inning and an advance-scoring hit in the eleventh inning.

The series received favorable reviews upon its premiere in Korea, with actor Ji Sung receiving praise for his acting performance, while Won Jin-ah's performance was criticized.

The series' success led to a 147-fold increase in downloads of the original web novel "Judge Lee Han-young" according to the Information Technology sector of Webtoon Naver.

The series achieved record television viewership ratings according to Nielsen, with the sixth episode recording 11% with approximately 2.1 million viewers, while episode 13 was the most-watched with 13.6% and more than 2.3 million viewers.

The series ranked first on both the Wavve and TVING platforms according to the Kinolight website specializing in online viewership.

Actor Ji Sung, who plays the lead role of Lee Han-young, participated in the series' original soundtrack (OST).

Director Lee Jae-jin stated before the final episode that the series' great success led to discussions about a potential second season, but he pointed out that the decision was not his alone to make, noting that the company views it positively and the writer also hopes for it and has structured the story's ending in a way that allows for it.

On June 17, 2025, the main cast consisting of Ji Sung, Won Jin-ah, and Park Hee-sun was confirmed, and on the same day, filming of the series officially began.
