Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

The miniseries is adapted from the novel Mix Tape by Jane Sanderson, and the project was announced in August 2023 as a collaboration between Screen Australia, Screen Ireland, and Binge.

Origins

The series was adapted for television by Jo Spain and directed by Lucy Gaffy, produced across Australian (Foxtel Group, Aquarius Films) and Irish (Subotica) companies alongside Canadian firm Boat Rocker Media.

Casting

Teresa Palmer and Jim Sturgess were confirmed as the leads in May 2024, with Florence Hunt and Rory Walton-Smith joining a month later to play their younger counterparts.

Filming

Filming took place in Sydney, Australia in May 2024, before moving to Dublin and County Wicklow in Ireland for shooting in June and July 2024, reflecting the story's two distant settings.

Reception

Critical reception was mixed: The Guardian gave it 4 out of 5 stars praising the lead performances, while The Times awarded only 2 out of 5, describing it as a mash-up of One Day and High Fidelity with a Full Monty-style setting.

Reception

The Irish Times criticised the series for lacking authenticity in its Dublin-set scenes and for an implausible plotline, calling it 'a bit of a muddle'.

Reception

Mix Tape won the Audience Award at the 2025 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, and later won Best Soundtrack at the 15th AACTA Awards in 2026.
