The series was commissioned by ITVX in May 2023 and is written by Catherine Moulton, produced by Mammoth Screen with ITV Studios handling international distribution.

Lead actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, who is deaf, also served as an executive producer on the show alongside writer Catherine Moulton, Tom Leggett and Damien Timmer.

Filming took place from September 2024 to February 2025 at locations including Canterbury, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Wrotham Park and St Albans in Hertfordshire.

The six-episode series was helmed by lead director Diarmuid Goggins.

The show premiered on ITVX in the UK on 18 May 2025 and later aired on BritBox in North America starting 24 July 2025; it was renewed for a second series in July 2025.

Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 100% approval rating based on 24 critic reviews, while Metacritic scored it 80 out of 100 based on 9 critics, indicating 'Generally Favorable' reception.

The series received multiple award nominations, including New Drama at the National Television Awards, Best Drama at the British Academy Television Awards, and Best Drama at the 2026 Royal Television Society Programme Awards, with Rose Ayling-Ellis nominated for her leading performance across several ceremonies.
