Origins

The series is an adaptation of the 2014 Spanish television series Velvet, created by Ramón Campos and Gema R. María, updated for a modern-day setting produced by Telemundo.

Telemundo announced on 20 November 2024 that it had acquired the remake rights to the Spanish series and was developing the modern adaptation.

Filming

Filming began on 24 February 2025, the same day the series' title, Velvet: El nuevo imperio, was officially announced.

Casting

Samantha Siqueiros and Yon González were announced in the lead roles on 22 January 2025, with Danilo Carrera cast as the antagonist.

Casting

The rest of the main cast, including Carolina Miranda, Chantal Andere and Humberto Zurita, was revealed on 24 February 2025, the same day filming started.

Casting

Flor Núñez and Lupita Ferrer joined the cast in guest roles in March 2025, followed by Elizabeth Gutiérrez on 4 April 2025.
