Revenged Love is adapted from the web novel Counter Attack (逆袭) by Chai Ji Dan, who also served as the show's producer, and is a remake of the 2015 drama Falling in Love with a Rival.

Although mostly filmed in Wuxi, China, the series could not be broadcast on domestic Chinese TV or streaming platforms due to Chinese media policy on BL content, so it was released only outside mainland China on platforms like GagaOOLala, Viu, and YouTube.

To avoid the show being trending and censored on Chinese social media, fans deliberately used inverted or coded nicknames like '順恨' (Shun Hen) and '順殺' (Shun Sha), or character-based nicknames such as 'the snake charmer and the candy boy,' to discuss the series online.

Actor Zi Yu, who plays lead character Wu Suo Wei, was initially just a backup candidate for the role; his first audition failed to impress because he still had a shaved head from a previous project that clashed with the character's look, but he requested a second audition wearing a wig and won the part after the original actor dropped out.

Tian Xu Ning, who plays Chi Cheng, was producer Chai Ji Dan's first choice for the role from the start; after three attempts to secure her (the first two falling through due to scheduling), she was cast via a video call without ever having to audition, to avoid losing her again.

Lead actor Zi Yu ended up dubbing his own character Wu Suo Wei despite having no prior voice-acting experience, after the production team found his natural voice fit the role better than any of the professional voice actors they auditioned.

The voice actor for Chi Cheng was changed mid-production after the team heard dubbing artist Shunzi's version and felt it matched the character better, leading them to hire him even though it exceeded the show's budget.

Due to budget constraints, the production could not commission much original music, so the director selected background music mainly from copyrighted music platforms based on his personal listening habits, aided by AI tools to find songs with a matching mood.

Filming for the series wrapped at the end of August 2024.

The series became GagaOOLala's most popular drama of the first half of 2025, topping its trending chart, and set a new viewership record when its finale aired.

In mid-July 2025, the show abruptly paused its release schedule without announcing a return date, sparking speculation among viewers; producer Chai Ji Dan later clarified the pause was needed for story adjustments and completion before the show resumed with two episodes per week.

After the show's rise in popularity, several cast members faced controversies, including lead actor Zi Yu publicly apologizing after being accused by a self-identified ex-girlfriend of inappropriate behavior during their relationship, and co-star Tian Xu Ning's agency taking legal action against false rumors that she was secretly married with children.
