The series was developed under the working title 'Miss Undercover Boss' (Korean: 미스언더커버보스) before being retitled Undercover Miss Hong.

The show was planned and produced by Studio Dragon in partnership with Celltrion Entertainment.

Park Shin-hye reportedly reached a tentative agreement to join the series in March 2025, with Ko Kyung-pyo joining as the male lead two months later, followed by Ha Yoon-kyung and Cho Han-gyeol in June 2025.

The show marked the acting debut of singer/actress Yuna, who was cast to play Hong Jang-mi, the character whose identity the heroine borrows for her undercover mission.

The original soundtrack was overseen by Park Se-jun and produced by Blix Entertainment, marking that company's first venture into television drama music production, built on a partnership between its management and established musicians.

The series started modestly with a 3.5% nationwide rating for its premiere but climbed steadily, peaking with the penultimate episode's 13.1% nationwide (14.0% in Seoul) rating, the highest of the run.

On Netflix, the show entered the global weekly non-English chart at number 6 in its first week, appeared in the top 10 of 41 countries, gathered 1.9 million views, and later peaked at number 4 in early February 2026.

A fictional PC communication site called 'Yeouido Pirates' (여의도해적단) featured in the drama was actually launched as a real functioning website to promote the show.
