The screenplay was written by Lee Sun, who won the Excellence Award at Studio Dragon's 2nd Drama Script Contest for this very story back in 2020.

Alongside the TV series, a webtoon adaptation written by Lee Sun began serialization on Naver Webtoon on December 27, 2025, just before the drama's premiere.

Nam Ji-hyun and Moon Sang-min were the first cast members confirmed, joining the project as early as October 2024.

Ha Seok-jin, Choi Won-young and Hong Min-gi were reportedly set to join the cast in April 2025, while Han So-eun's casting was reported later, on September 10.

Principal photography lasted eight months, running from March 2025 to October 2025, entirely filmed in Gyeongnam Province.

Key filming locations included the House of Choi Champan in Hadong-gun, Ildu House in Hamyang-gun, Sam-eunjeong in Miryang, and Hwangmaesan mountain in Hapcheon.

The story blends a soul-swap fantasy element with a reimagining of the legendary Korean folk hero Hong Gil-dong, as the heroine secretly operates under that very name as a righteous thief.

The series marked the final entry in KBS2's long-running Saturday-Sunday drama slot before the network paused the format, with the next Saturday-Sunday drama not scheduled until its successor 'The Making of a Marriage' in February.
