Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Casting

The role of Go Eun Sung, ultimately played by Han Hyo Joo, was initially offered to actress Park Bo-young, who rejected it due to schedule conflicts.

Origins

The original title of the series was going to be 'Life is Beautiful', but it was changed to 'Brilliant Legacy' to avoid confusion with the homonymous film and to better reflect the content of the plot.

Reception

The series was praised as a 'good drama' in contrast to the trend of sensationalist dramas ('makjang') in the first half of 2009, and from episode 24 onwards it exceeded 40% national viewership.

Reception

In its final episode, the series reached an audience of 47.1%, maintaining its position as the most-watched program for 19 consecutive weeks in South Korea.

Reception

Due to its length it was extended from 26 to 28 episodes, a decision confirmed on June 4, 2009.

Reception

In Japan, following its broadcast by Fuji TV in mid-2010 within the 'Hallyu Alpha' program, it achieved 9.7% viewership on March 24, ranking first in its time slot, the highest figure recorded in a decade for that time slot.

Reception

The series was disqualified from the final candidates for the 22nd Korea Broadcasting Writers Award in December 2009 due to issues with implausible plot coincidences.

Reception

The Korea Communications Commission issued a warning to the production for showing in nearly identical form the poster of a real charitable campaign ('Sarangui Bapcha') from the sponsor, integrated into the plot as an activity of the fictional company.

Trivia

The OST song '운명, 그 두 번째 이야기' (Destiny, Second Story) is an arrangement of the song '운명' from the SBS drama 'One Fine Day'.

Trivia

Actor Jeon In-taek, who played Go Pyung-joong, had simultaneous appearances after also joining the MBC drama '2009 Oein Guedan' from May 17, 2009, a role that was originally supposed to be played by Choi Min-soo, who was replaced after being prosecuted without detention for assaulting a 70-year-old man in April 2008.

Trivia

The series was adapted in China in 2011 by Dragon TV under the title 'My Splendid Life', starring Jerry Yan and Jedda Chen, and in Turkey in 2018 by TRT 1 under the name 'Elimi Bırakma', starring Alina Boz and Alp Navruz.
