The final episode's subtitle was 187 characters long, making it the longest subtitle in Japanese TV anime history at the time of broadcast; it held this record for 17 years until being surpassed in 2022 by the first episode of 'This Healer is Too Much Trouble'.

Due to its extremely long title, the final episode's subtitle was listed in TV program guides simply as 'Totsuzen no ika ryaku' (roughly 'sudden abbreviation').

In contrast, the final episode subtitle of the second season 'School Rumble: Ni Gakki' was just one character long, making it the shortest subtitle in Japanese TV anime history (excluding works with no subtitle at all).

The manga's original author Jin Kobayashi personally worked on the key animation and in-between animation for the final episode of the first season.

Jin Kobayashi also appeared as himself (voice role) in the second season, following an earlier voice cameo in the first season.

Because of the 'Pokémon Shock' incident, the show included the standard Japanese TV warning to watch television in a well-lit room and sit back from the screen, but varied how and when this message was displayed each episode to fit the situation, sometimes integrating it into the story itself.

Scenes in the original manga showing characters drinking alcohol were altered for the anime: drinks were replaced with barley tea or orange juice, and a scene of a character riding a motorcycle without a helmet was changed to show him wearing one.

For episode 18, a giant robot named Dojibiron appeared in the ending sequence with 3D CG animation, and the main characters' names in that episode were puns on the voice actors' real names.

Between the first and second seasons, two voice actresses were replaced: Ichijou Karen's role went from Yuka Nanri to MAKO, and Sasakura Youko's role went from Akiko Kurumado to Aya Hirano.

Although MAKO voiced Ichijou Karen in the second season, her insert songs used in live performance scenes were actually sung by Lia rather than MAKO herself.

The second season was produced without direct involvement from TV Tokyo since it aired in a late-night slot instead of the early evening slot used for the first season; producer Fukashi Azuma was credited only as 'program supervisor' rather than producer.
