Three of the four main girls—Jo, Meg, and Amy—are named after the March sisters from the novel Little Women.

ADR Director Christopher Bevins described Jo as being 'like a female cross between Clint Eastwood and Wolverine.'

In a Newtype magazine article, English voice actor Jamie Marchi's performance as Meg was praised for brilliantly capturing the character's 'What-ever' attitude.

Amy's English voice actress, Alison Retzloff, also voices Conan, the title character of Case Closed; Bevins joked that Amy's prissy, snotty demeanor would give the young detective a migraine.

Meg's hair is depicted as red throughout most of the series but was drawn as black in the monochrome-styled episode 'Wild Kids.'

In Japan, pachinko and pachislot machines based on the series were released under the title 'Burst Angel' instead of the original Japanese title '爆裂天使,' because the word 'bakuretsu' (explosive) was deemed to encourage gambling excitement.

An OVA titled Burst Angel: Infinity, released in 2007, serves as a prequel/side-story showing Jo and Meg visiting Sam and her old gang in New York, and also includes a short preview segment depicting the characters five years in the future.

A manga prequel titled Angel's Adolescence, written by Minoru Murao, was serialized from 2004 to 2005 and explicitly depicts a romantic relationship between Jo and Meg, in contrast to the anime's more subtle portrayal.
