Comedy Drama

One of Lima’s most exclusive residential neighborhoods is turned upside down by the arrival of the Gonzales family, who have come from the countryside to settle into a half-finished house they inherited. Their down-to-earth ways will rub the neighbors the wrong way, especially the Maldinis, who will do everything in their power to get rid of them. As the years go by and new seasons unfold, the story deepens with the arrival of the Montalván family, who will bring even more conflicts and unexpected situations to this unique neighborhood.

Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

The series was proposed by Efraín Aguilar as a replacement for the series 'Así es la vida' in 2008, after he noticed a drop in that show's audience.

Origins

The show was initially planned under the provisional title 'La casa se respeta' and was meant to last only three seasons to avoid audience fatigue.

Origins

The plot was based on the sketch 'Los vecinos de Ate y La Molina' from the comedy program 'El especial del humor,' a parody of two racist neighbors coexisting with a lower-class family.

Origins

The premiere was delayed up to six months, waiting behind the sequel to the miniseries 'Rita y yo' and the spin-off 'Las locas aventuras de Jerry y Marce' before filming finally began about a month before its March 2009 debut.

Filming

The original set, acquired by América Televisión in 2004 for its predecessor 'Así es la vida,' was located in the Lima district of Lince and was used for 13 years until it was demolished after the eighth season, later becoming a real residential complex.

Filming

In its third season, the production had a budget of 15,000 dollars per episode, and across the first eight seasons a total of 1,583 episodes were broadcast, each roughly 40 minutes long.

Casting

In 2011, creator Efraín Aguilar established a rule that cast members should not publicly air their personal lives, in order to avoid problems within the cast.

Origins

In April 2024, producer Gigio Aranda revealed that the 2022 comeback was originally meant to be a separate reboot project titled 'Al fondo hay sitio otra vez' rather than a direct continuation, but it was ultimately launched as season nine instead.

Music

The in-show cumbia band Grupo 7 was officially formed as a real musical group in 2023, releasing the song 'Acaba con el calor' in February 2024 with help from actor Erick Elera, before renaming itself 'Somos 7' later that year.

Reception

In 2012, archaeologist Walter Alva publicly criticized how the show depicted the Señor de Sipán artifact in its storylines.

Reception

Despite its domestic success, the series received mixed international ratings by mid-2022, scoring 5.5/10 on IMDb and just 3/10 on FilmAffinity.

Trivia

In 2025, part of the twelfth season was announced to be filmed in China as a promotional collaboration with a Chinese media group, and the production also aired an episode staged entirely live that same year.
