The series is based on a webseries created by Devin Clark titled '5 On with Alan Whiter,' which was later developed into a full show by former The Simpsons writer David M. Stern.

The series premiere aired directly after the 14th season premiere of South Park and was watched by over 2 million viewers.

After Comedy Central announced the show's cancellation in 2013, producers said the network tried to find outside financing to keep it alive but legal technicalities blocked any deals; the series was later revived as a mobile app game for iOS in September 2014.
