Petite Princess Yucie

The series is loosely based on the Princess Maker video game franchise by Gainax, sharing the same character designer, Takami Akai, and several plot elements.

The butler character Cube is a recurring character across the Princess Maker games (appearing in Princess Maker 2, 4, and 5 as the player's butler), and he appears in the anime with a nearly identical design as Yucie's steward.

Yucie's appearance is based on Lisa, the daughter character from Princess Maker 3, while the mysterious judge in the final episode shares her design with Maria, the daughter from Princess Maker 1, and the young Queen Ercell resembles Olive, the daughter from Princess Maker 2.

Chisa Yokoyama, who voices the mysterious character Maga Selent (revealed to be a Platinum Princess candidate from 1,000 years ago), also voiced the corresponding character in the original Princess Maker video game.

The show features a unique visual gimmick where the eyecatch (a short transition segment) was different for each episode up to episode 22, using deformed comical versions of the characters; from episode 23 onward, no eyecatch was used.

Starting around episode 14, the ending sequence imagery changed to show all five princess candidates instead of just Yucie, with a slight change in wording of the ending theme title, though this briefly reverted back to the original imagery for episode 19.

The opening theme 'Egao no Tensai' is performed by the five main voice actresses under the group name Petite Princesses (Maria Yamamoto, Yuki Matsuoka, Yukari Fukui, Ayako Kawasumi and Fumiko Orikasa), reflecting the show's ensemble cast of princess candidates.
