Gasaraki

Gasaraki marked Ryōsuke Takahashi's (creator of Armored Trooper Votoms) return to directing a television series, thirteen years after Blue Comet SPT Layzner. It was also his first project conceived from the beginning as a two-cour series (half a year).

According to assistant director Gorō Taniguchi, Takahashi was very busy during production and could not be constantly present on set, so the team was mainly responsible for the visual direction, leaving Takahashi only the final decision on the script.

Screenwriter Tetsu Nozaki conceived the narrative structure as an ensemble drama in the style of the American medical series 'ER', interweaving several different storylines within each episode rather than resolving one plot per chapter.

After the series ended, and thanks to moderately decent sales of audiovisual products, Sunrise considered making a theatrical film, which was even discussed in specialized anime magazines, but the project was cancelled for undisclosed reasons.

Takahashi himself declared as a guest on Yoshitomo Yonetani's web radio that 'there will be no sequel to Gasaraki', thus confirming the definitive abandonment of the idea of a continuation.

The director himself acknowledged after broadcast that 'he made the robots act very little', since the Tactical Armor and Metal Fake barely had prominence in much of the plot, especially in the middle section; the model kits of these robots, despite being manufactured, did not sell particularly well.

The design of the Tactical Armor, with a head resembling a tank turret with composite armor, was the first of its kind used in a television anime series, although similar designs already existed in OVAs and scale models.

The LOSAT anti-tank missile that equips the Metal Fake in the series corresponds to a real missile that the United States was developing at the time of the anime's broadcast, but whose development was later cancelled in reality.
