Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

The series is based on the manhwa Full House by Won Soo-yeon and is considered a pioneer of the 'romantic comedy' genre in Korean drama.

Reception

Full House was a great success across Asia and helped propel the Korean Wave (Hallyu).

Casting

The lead male role of Lee Young-jae was originally offered to Jung Woo-sung and then to Lee Jung-jae, but Lee Jung-jae turned it down because he was busy preparing for the film Typhoon, so the role ultimately went to Rain.

Casting

Jun Ji-hyun was initially considered for the female lead role of Han Ji-eun, but she reportedly declined, possibly because the role required her to cut her hair.

Filming

The titular 'Full House' was a real house built specially for the series, located in the Gwangyeok-si area of Incheon near Incheon International Airport, reachable by a ten-minute boat ride from Sammok Harbor.

Filming

The wooden house used as the main filming location cost approximately US$1 million to build.

Trivia

A musical theatre adaptation of Full House was staged at the Hongik Art Center starting April 11, 2014, with Yang Yo-seob and Leo (VIXX) alternating as Lee Young-jae, and Jung Eun-ji and Joo alternating as Han Ji-eun.

Reception

At the 2004 KBS Drama Awards, Song Hye-kyo and Rain both won the Best Couple Award, along with individual popularity and excellence awards.
