Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

A remake of the original 1976 series had been in the works since late 2009, when screenwriter Josh Friedman was first hired to write a pilot script, but his version was ultimately rejected.

Origins

After Friedman's script was scrapped, ABC hired Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to write a new version, which was eventually developed into a full reboot rather than a straight remake.

Origins

Alfred Gough stated he wanted to avoid anything 'campy or retro,' aiming instead for characters that were 'real and emotionally grounded' while still having fun and kicking ass.

Casting

Robert Wagner was originally set to voice Charlie, but scheduling conflicts forced him to exit the project; Victor Garber was cast as the new voice of Charlie after an exhaustive search.

Filming

Filming of the pilot, directed by veteran TV director Marcos Siega, began in Miami on March 8, 2011.

Reception

The show was cancelled by ABC on October 14, 2011, just one day after the fourth episode aired, due to low ratings, despite an initial order of thirteen episodes.

Reception

The eighth and final episode never aired in the United States, but was later broadcast internationally by AXN Poland, Cinemax Latinoamerica, and E4 in the UK.

Reception

Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 0% approval rating based on 32 reviews, with critics summarizing it as lacking even the camp value needed to be a guilty pleasure.
