The lead role of the traditional Korean medicine doctor, eventually played by Lee Soon-jae, was also considered for actor Choi Bul-am, but he dropped out due to a previous experience of struggling to adapt to sitcom acting on another daily sitcom called 'Jump'.

The role that became Na Moon-hee's character was initially offered to actress Jeon Won-ju, who declined it because she had been chosen to host a new SBS program called 'Jal Salaboseh'.

The role eventually played by Park Hae-mi was first offered to actress Lee Kyung-sil, but she turned it down after being cast as a regular on SBS's 'Hey Hey Hey Season 2'.

Actress Choi Jung-yoon was considered for the role of Shin Ji, but the casting fell through because she was cast in the tvN drama 'Romance Hunter'.

Filming began on October 19, 2006, and because the sitcom aired five times a week, the cast reportedly had to shoot six days a week.

There was a plan to adapt the sitcom into a feature film, but it was cancelled due to various scheduling issues among the cast.

The show is credited with single-handedly revitalizing the South Korean sitcom genre, which had been stagnant since the end of the 'Nonstop' series, and it became such a strong brand for MBC that it spawned two sequels, High Kick Through the Roof (2009) and High Kick: Revenge of the Short Legged (2011).

Starting with a modest viewership of around 7.4%, the show's ratings climbed steadily, surpassing 20% by January 2007 and peaking at 24.2% in February 2007 according to TNMS figures.

Lead actor Lee Soon-jae earned the nickname 'Adult-video Soon-jae' after his character was caught watching adult videos on the computer, while co-stars Seo Min-jung and Park Hae-mi were nicknamed 'Klutz Min-jung' and 'OK Hae-mi' respectively, based on running gags from the show.

Before officially debuting as members of the boy group 2PM, Nichkhun and Ok Taec-yeon appeared in the show as members of the fictional group 'Hwang Chan-sung and Kids'.

Vietnamese network Điền Quân Media & Entertainment adapted the series as 'Gia đình là số 1', which began airing on January 18, 2017; the original series had also previously aired in Vietnam on HTV3 under the same title starting November 11, 2009.

In the Philippines, the show aired on TV5 starting April 5, 2010, using the song 'Diamond Shotgun' by the band Chicosci as its theme song.

On October 29, 2021, MBC's documentary program Docuflex released a two-part special reuniting the cast on the original set to celebrate the sitcom's 15th anniversary.
