Forever Knight

Forever Knight originated from a 1989 CBS television movie called Nick Knight, which starred Rick Springfield as the title vampire character.

When CBS turned the concept into a series in 1992, Geraint Wyn Davies took over the role of Nick Knight, requiring the pilot to be re-shot with the new actor.

Although not the first sympathetic vampire detective in fiction (Marvel Comics' Hannibal King preceded him in Tomb of Dracula), Forever Knight helped popularize the concept and is considered a direct precursor to later vampire investigator shows like Angel and Blood Ties.

As with much vampire literature of the 1990s, when AIDS was a major societal anxiety, the show approaches vampirism partly as a disease to be overcome.

Star Geraint Wyn Davies' favored charity is the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the fan event 'Bridging the Knight' raised money for Casey House, a Toronto AIDS hospice, with donations from producer Nicolas Gray and the show's cast and crew.

The series was nominated for 13 Gemini Awards, winning once in 1996, and was ranked #23 on TV Guide's Top Cult Shows Ever list in 2004 before being removed from the list in 2007.

In the UK, the series aired only once, in 1995 on Sky One, and has never been rerun there since.
