TV Guide later ranked Bless This House number 48 on its list of the 50 Worst Shows of All Time in 2002.

Reviews were sharply divided: while the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle and Los Angeles Times gave favorable notices, Entertainment Weekly criticized it for relying on an endless succession of crude sex jokes despite having smart things to say about family life.

People magazine's review concluded that Bless This House was the first TV show it had seen that would work better as a radio program.
