The Day of the Triffids

This 2009 BBC miniseries is a loose adaptation of John Wyndham's 1951 novel, which had previously been adapted as a 1962 theatrical film and a 1981 BBC series.

In November 2008, the BBC announced it had commissioned Power and Prodigy Pictures to produce this new version of the story, which was screened on 28 and 29 December 2009.

The cast featured a mix of well-known actors including Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard and Jason Priestley in leading roles.

The scenes where Bill meets Susan and Imogen were filmed around Cobstone Windmill at Ibstone and in the village of Turville, Buckinghamshire, with the girls' home shown as the real Bull & Butcher pub in Turville.

Shirning, the house belonging to Bill Masen's father, was filmed at Groombridge Place near Tunbridge Wells in Kent, a location that had previously been used in the 2005 film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

The religious colony scenes were shot at the Hospital of St Cross in Winchester, while the pub taken over by Coker and his team was filmed at The Cockpit on St Andrew's Hill near St Paul's Cathedral in London.

The series was directed by Nick Copus, known for EastEnders and The 4400, from a script by Patrick Harbinson, who also wrote for Soldier Soldier, Heartbeat, ER and Law & Order.
