Actor Frank Giering, who played Commissioner Henry Weber, died unexpectedly during the filming of the fifth season.

Following Frank Giering's death, his character Henry Weber also died in the series storyline, and was replaced by Commissioner Max Winter, played by Janek Rieke.

The character of Commissioner Esther Rubens, played by Anna Blomeier, is shot and killed at the beginning of the sixth episode of the twelfth season, after which she is succeeded by Verena Kleinefeldt, played by Johanna Polley.

Throughout the seasons, several secondary characters from the investigation team were replaced: Anne Vogt was followed by Jana Wagner, who in turn was replaced by Alex Keller, and the role of Bülent Celik disappeared from the fourth season onwards.

The series was filmed at real locations in Berlin such as the Neues Kreuzberger Zentrum and Kottbusser Tor, as well as scenes filmed in Potsdam and its surroundings.

The series was produced by Monaco Film Hamburg, a subsidiary of Odeon Film.

After 109 episodes, the series was cancelled in October 2020.
