Jack of All Trades

Jack of All Trades, together with Cleopatra 2525, formed the Back2Back Action Hour and both were notable for being the first American non-animated action series produced in the half-hour format since the 1970s.

The series was canceled in the middle of its second season.

The show was filmed with a comedic tone set at the turn of the 19th century on the fictional French-controlled island of Pulau-Pulau, featuring recurring historical inaccuracies as an ongoing gag, such as portraying Canada as French territory instead of British, and showing Benjamin Franklin on the 100 dollar bill during his own lifetime.

Several historical figures who appear on the show, parodied for comedic effect, actually died before the series' 1801 setting, adding to its intentional anachronisms.

Leonardo da Vinci is parodied through a fictitious descendant character named Nardo da Vinci, played by Michael Hurst.

Verne Troyer had a recurring guest role as Napoleon Bonaparte, appearing in four episodes.

The theme song's tune and lyrics were based on numerous period songs, including the 'Marines' Hymn' and 'Yankee Doodle'.

The theme song was nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Theme Title Song in 2000 but lost to The West Wing.
