The series was created by executive producers Ric Swartzlander, Don Reo, and actor-comedian Damon Wayans, and starred stand-up comic and country music singer Rodney Carrington in the lead role.

The show starred country singer and stand-up comedian Rodney Carrington playing a character with the same first name who wants to leave his job to become a stand-up comedian, closely mirroring Carrington's own career path.

Mac Davis, best known as a country music singer-songwriter, had a recurring role on the show as Trina's father, Carl.

The final six produced episodes were never broadcast in the United States, but they were aired internationally in Australia on the Seven Network and in the UK on ABC1 before that channel shut down in 2007.

Season 1 of the series was released on DVD exclusively through Wal-Mart on May 5, 2009, containing all 22 episodes in widescreen.

The complete second and final season was released on DVD on October 6, 2009, and included all 22 episodes, even the ones that had never aired on ABC in the US.

The series had an international broadcast run beyond the US, airing in the UK from May 2005, in Australia from August 2006, in the Netherlands in 2008, and in Poland on Comedy Central Family as late as May 2011.
