The series is a reboot of an original Superbook series, produced through a collaboration between the Christian Broadcasting Network and Asia-Pacific region animation studios, including local partners like Tokyo MX and Word of Life Press Ministries in Japan.

Together with its predecessor, the franchise is considered one of the most successful animated collaborative Japanese and American media productions.

The show ran for a decade, from September 1, 2011 to April 4, 2021, spanning five seasons and 68 episodes.

It aired across multiple broadcasters simultaneously, including Tokyo MX in Japan and ABC Family/Freeform, Daystar, and Trinity Broadcasting Network's Smile in the United States.

The series continues to be distributed for free through several platforms, including Prime Video, the Superbook Kid's Bible App, CBN's YouTube channel, and the Christian streaming service Yippee TV.

Starting in 2016, Superbook released DVDs pairing two previously aired episodes together, each including bonus features such as character drawing tutorials, music videos, and informational segments about the biblical locations depicted in the stories.

In 2020, the franchise expanded with the short series Gizmo Go!, introducing intern Miss Tina and three new comical robot characters, Rig, Gears, and Widget, alongside Gizmo.
