Wizards vs Aliens

Wizards vs Aliens was created to fill the schedule gap left by Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures, which was cancelled following the death of its lead actress Elisabeth Sladen.

Although co-created by Russell T Davies, known for Doctor Who, the series is set in its own separate continuity in an alternate universe and is not connected to the Doctor Who universe.

Co-creator Russell T Davies stated the programme could 'easily run for ten years', but by January 2015 the series was placed on an indefinite hiatus due to budget constrictions.

Two series were originally commissioned by the BBC in late 2011, though the show eventually ran for three series before being put on hiatus.

The role of Varg was recast between seasons, played by Jefferson Hall in Series 1–2 and by Kristian Phillips in Series 3.

The character Benny Sherwood comes out as gay at the end of the Series 2 finale, a storyline that was altered in the Polish dub, where his coming-out dialogue was changed to soften the reveal.

In the Polish voice-over broadcast on teleTOON+, Benny's coming-out line 'I'll go on a date, one day. Just not with her. Not with a girl' was censored to 'I'll go on a date, one day. Just not with her. Not yet.'

The series aired internationally, including an American debut on the Hub Network in 2013, broadcasts in Australia on ABC 3, Poland on teleTOON+, and Italy on Rai Gulp, and was available on Netflix until December 2018.
