Iron Man (2010) is the first installment of the 'Marvel Anime' project, a collaboration between Marvel Entertainment, Japanese animation studio Madhouse, and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan, announced at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con.

According to former Madhouse President and CEO Jungo Maruta, Marvel gave the studio free rein to reimagine its superheroes for a Japanese audience, resulting in an entirely new parallel storyline set primarily in Japan.

Comic writer Warren Ellis was brought on to guide the story for the Iron Man anime series, working alongside director Yuzo Sato.

Wolverine makes a guest appearance in episode 4 of the Iron Man anime, teaming up with Tony Stark; this crossover ties into the second Marvel Anime series, Wolverine, in which Wolverine is the lead character.

Keiji Fujiwara and Hiroe Oka reprised their Japanese dub voice roles for Tony Stark and Pepper Potts respectively, roles they had previously voiced in the live-action Iron Man films.

For the English-language version, Jamie Simone served as voice director, casting director, and reversion producer.

The series first aired in Japan on Animax from October 1 to December 17, 2010, with a special preview broadcast on September 25, 2010, before later premiering in the United States on G4 in July 2011.

A direct-to-video sequel film, Iron Man: Rise of Technovore, directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki, was released in 2013 as a follow-up to the TV series.
