The series was the first television anime adaptation of a KA Esuma Bunko light novel, with the project's development announced via a PV on December 28, 2011.

Kumin Tsuyuri and Sanae Dekomori are original characters created specifically for the anime adaptation and do not originate from the light novels.

According to director Tatsuya Ishihara, plans for a second season were already in motion before producers proposed making a bridging film between season one and two, which led to the first movie, Rikka Version.

For the Rikka Version film, Ishihara shifted the narrative perspective from Yuta (used in the TV series) to Rikka, which made him realize that scenes played as comedy in the first season could appear serious and poignant when viewed through her eyes.

Keihan Electric Railway ran a train (600 series unit 609F) on its Ishiyamasaka Line wrapped with Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! artwork from March 2014 to July 2015, overlapping with similarly wrapped trains promoting other Kyoto Animation shows K-On! and Sound! Euphonium.
