The series took over ER's time slot on NBC during the summer, premiering on June 8, 2006, while ER was off the air.

NBC cancelled the show abruptly, announcing on its website that the August 31, 2006 episode would serve as the series finale.

Because the finale's broadcast was preempted or rescheduled by many local affiliates for Labor Day weekend programming or pre-season football, it wasn't even counted among primetime shows that week, leaving it without official ratings.

The show was originally developed in early 2005 by Regency Television for Fox under the title 'Ticket To Ride', but Fox passed on the series after ordering a pilot.

NBC picked up the project in June 2005 and had a new pilot shot for the network.

Co-creator Gwendolyn Parker left the project when it moved to NBC, going on to work on Without a Trace instead.

For the 2005-06 television season, Windfall ranked 164th with an average of 5.51 million viewers.
