Locked Up: The Oasis

The spin-off was born from fan demand: after Vis a Vis ended its fourth season on 4 February 2019 with Macarena and Zulema free and pulling a jewelry heist, fans repeatedly made their calls for a continuation trend on Twitter and organized petitions and signature collections.

FOX España and producers Globomedia and FOX Networks Group España held meetings to develop the spin-off, but creator and writer Iván Escobar stated the project depended on whether actresses Maggie Civantos and Najwa Nimri agreed to reprise their roles.

The spin-off, titled El Oasis, was officially confirmed on 23 May 2019, with Civantos and Nimri confirmed to return and hints that several faces from the original series would also appear across the eight episodes.

Unlike previous seasons of Vis a Vis, all eight scripts for El Oasis were fully written before shooting began, a first for the franchise.

Argentine actors Ana María Picchio and Lucas Ferraro were leaked as cast members in late July 2019, months before the official announcement.

Alba Flores' special collaboration reprising her Vis a Vis character Saray Vargas de Jesús was only confirmed on 28 January 2020, during the final week of shooting, as a way to give the whole franchise a definitive farewell.

Filming officially began on 21 October 2019 in Madrid, though the very first shots were actually captured a week earlier, on 17 October.

After a month of shooting exterior scenes such as the big heist in Madrid, production moved to Almería in November, filming the Hotel Oasis exteriors in Agua Amarga and additional scenes in the Tabernas desert and Cabo de Gata, before returning to Madrid studios (Adisar Media) in December; the shoot wrapped on the night of 31 January 2020.
