The miniseries is based on the real story of Australian media mogul Kerry Packer and his creation of World Series Cricket, a rival competition to the official Ashes-era cricket establishment set in the 1970s.

The screenplay was written by Christopher Lee, who also authored a companion book of the same title, 'Howzat! Kerry Packer's War', first published in 2012 by New South Publishing, an imprint of The University of New South Wales.

Lachy Hulme portrays media mogul Kerry Packer, the central figure behind the creation of World Series Cricket.

The cast includes actors playing real-life cricketing legends such as Ian Chappell, Greg Chappell, Dennis Lillee, Jeff Thomson, Rod Marsh and Tony Greig, alongside entertainment figures like Paul Hogan and John Cornell.
