Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

Ravenswood is the first spin-off series of Pretty Little Liars, created by I. Marlene King, Oliver Goldstick and Joseph Dougherty, and set in a fictional town first introduced in the original show.

Origins

The spin-off was officially announced by ABC Family on March 26, 2013, and the series premiered on October 22, 2013, directly following the Pretty Little Liars Halloween special episode 'Grave New World', which served as its backdoor pilot.

Casting

Tyler Blackburn reprised his Pretty Little Liars role as Caleb Rivers, and he also played an original version of the character in 1910s flashback scenes, alongside Nicole Gale Anderson who similarly played both modern-day Miranda and her Edwardian-era counterpart.

Casting

The role of Olivia Matheson was recast partway through casting: Elizabeth Whitson was originally announced to play Olivia opposite Brett Dier's Luke, but on July 16, 2013, it was revealed that Merritt Patterson (initially cast as Tess Hamilton) would take over the role of Olivia, with Whitson departing the show.

Casting

After Merritt Patterson switched from playing Tess Hamilton to Olivia Matheson, Haley Lu Richardson was brought in to take over the vacated role of Tess.

Casting

The character of Raymond Collins, who first appeared in the backdoor pilot 'Grave New World' played by Vince Lasalvia, was recast with Steven Cabral for the main series.

Casting

Meg Foster reprised her role as Mrs. Grunwald, a character who had first appeared in the fourth season episode 'Under the Gun' of Pretty Little Liars.

Casting

Ashley Benson and Bernard Curry made guest appearances reprising their Pretty Little Liars roles as Hanna Marin and Jaime Doyle respectively.

Filming

Filming for the series began on August 21, 2013, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Reception

The series was canceled by ABC Family on February 14, 2014, after just one season due to low ratings.
